Supposed if its not rough inside the runners the fuel cant atomize and fuel economy and driveablity would suffer. Also i've seen horsepower tv if you paint the bottom of an intake black, it reduces the temperature of the intake. Here is some of the equipment I needed to complete this project grit wet sand paper grit wet sand paper -Rotary tool with and assortment sanding wheels, flap wheels and wire wheels.

I also polished my strut bar. The bar is made of steel not aluminum so it can rust. The bar is not on the bar and was finished 4 weeks ago. It has been stored in the garage since then and shows no signs of rust. If it does rust I will sand it again and clear coat it, or just reinstall my other oem bar. A polished aluminum intake manifold also brightens up the engine bay around the engine. Polishing an aluminum intake manifold to a mirror finish will take at least one hour to complete.

It requires only a drill and some materials from your local auto parts store. Sand the intake manifold with grit sandpaper to remove all dirt and grit, and to smooth the surface.

Make sure to sand all crevices and indentations on the intake manifold. Mark the area to be removed using the gasket as a guide to eliminate the chance of over-porting. Always refer back to using the intake gasket for dimensional purposes; take horizontal and vertical measurements using a caliper to ensure all the ports are dimensionally sound.

With your air grinder set at 40 psi, remove the excess material and open up the ports. Move the aluminum carbide bit consistently around the edge of the port, taking care to not remove material that is covered by the gasket itself. Smooth out the edges of the port once the material is removed with grit sanding rolls.

Smooth the edges of the opening into the manifold to give the air a smooth, progressive passage. Inspect the insides of the intake tracts for casting marks and rough areas.
